We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user of MedicsAnatomy and of our website.

Plain English summary: We collect only what we need to run the app and the website. We don't sell your data. Ever.

Who we are

MedicsAnatomy is an Australian clinical learning app designed for paramedic and nursing students. We are based in Australia and handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What data we collect in the app

We collect the following types of information when you use the MedicsAnatomy app:

Account information: your name, email address and password (stored securely and hashed).
Usage data: which features you use, flashcard performance, scenario results and study streaks.
Device information: device type, operating system version and app version, for debugging.
Payment information: processed securely through the Apple App Store. We never store your payment card details.
Protocol preferences: your selected state (QAS, NSW or VIC) to personalise your experience.

We do not collect sensitive health information about you personally.

How we use your data

We use your data to:

Provide and improve the MedicsAnatomy app and its features.
Personalise your learning based on your state protocol and progress.
Send you important account and app update notifications (you can opt out at any time).
Analyse overall usage trends to improve the app, using anonymised data only.
Process your subscription and manage billing through Apple.
Respond to your support requests and enquiries.

We do not show ads in the MedicsAnatomy app or use your app data for advertising. Our website shows ads, as explained under "Advertising on our website" below. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing.

Third party services

MedicsAnatomy uses a small number of trusted third party services to operate:

Supabase: database and authentication, with data stored in secure cloud infrastructure.
Anthropic: powers the AI clinical tutor feature. Your questions are processed to generate responses but are not used by Anthropic to train its models under our API agreement.
Apple App Store: handles all subscription payments and billing.
Vercel: hosts our web platform.
Google Analytics: measures how visitors use our website, such as which pages are viewed, using cookies. IP addresses are anonymised and we do not use this data to identify you.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy, and we encourage you to review them.

Our website

This policy also covers our website, medicsanatomy.com, including our blog. When you visit the website:

Hosting and cookies: the website is hosted on Wix. Wix sets cookies that are needed for the site to work and collects basic visitor statistics, such as pages viewed, browser type and approximate location. Advertising cookies are described in the next section. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Contact form: our contact form does not store anything on our website. It opens your own email app with your message ready to send, and we receive your name, email address and message only when you send that email to medicsanatomy@outlook.com.
Newsletter: if you subscribe to our mailing list, your email address is stored by Wix so we can send you new articles and updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.

We only use this information to run the website, reply to you and send the updates you asked for.

Advertising on our website

Our website, including our blog, displays advertising provided by Google AdSense. This helps keep our study content free.

Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website or other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they won't be personalised based on your browsing. Advertising cookies are only used on our website, never in the MedicsAnatomy app.

Data storage and security

Your app data is stored securely using industry standard encryption. We use Supabase with row level security so your personal data is only accessible to you.

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be removed within 30 days.

Your rights

Under Australian privacy law, you have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you.
Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
Ask us to delete your account and personal data.
Opt out of non essential communications.
Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Children's privacy

MedicsAnatomy is intended for users aged 18 and over, or those enrolled in tertiary paramedic or nursing programs. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and let you know through the app if the changes are significant. Continuing to use MedicsAnatomy after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
